In today's tip, our client, Lea Ann Hutter of Hutter Design, shares an observation about getting new contacts to respond.

Lea Ann writes, "After meeting new people at networking events, I send an email asking them a question about their work or something we talked about and I find that they often don't respond. That leaves me wondering what the next communication should be,
since they didn't answer the question.

So instead, I've been forwarding information about events they might enjoy and they usually email back to thank me, because what I'm  sending is relevant to them.

Some freelance designers who want to work with me have been emailing me about local art events. I like that because it helps me remember them and like them. I always email them back to thank them for the info because I appreciate it and I want them to keep sending it.

So I think emailing a thank you is easier for people because it is a simple response
(no thinking involved)."
